Vice Presidents Report 2006-2007

Ontario once again leads the country over the past year with its ample chess calendar. I would like to thank the organizers across the province for continuing to promote our game. Most of my activities have centered around the tournaments as well.

Chief among the tournament successes in the past year was the inaugural Kitchener Chess Festival (where I was directly involved) and the Canadian Closed. In the coming year these 2 events will be merged along with the Canadian Women’s Zonal. I thank the OCA and SWOCL for their continued support of the Kitchener Chess Festival in 2007.

Throughout the year I have had several productive meetings with President Barry Thorvardson regarding the ongoing fundraising strategies for the OCA and the outlook is positive.

Speaking more regionally, SWOCL is completing another successful Grand Prix this year. Our newly elected executive intends to grow this tradition.

It would be my pleasure to return as OCA Vice President if the AGM so decides.
