Running from July 30-August 2, the Ontario Closed was a gruelling affair for a number of the province's top players. Once the smoke had cleared, however, an unexpected champion emerged in the form of Michael Kleinman, a tenth grade student from North Toronto C.I. En route to the undefeated performance, he scored a win over top-seeded IM Tomas Krnan - a victory which also secured him the brilliancy prize. Thanks go to the Kitchener-Waterloo Chess Club, and its organizational team, for their efforts in seeing this event made possible.
